Ollie’s Birthday

I aimed to create a birthday invitation that encapsulated the birthday boys personality.
I was tasked to incorporate at least one of the following: airplane, dog, dinosaur, fire trucks, and a train.

Rough Ideation for the Postcard Invitation 1
My idea for this sketch was to turn the theme elements (dinosaur, train, airplane, dog, and a fire truck) into an illustration that creates a story shot.

We see Ollie through some trees and greenery playing a remote controlled fire truck while it sprays water around. A doggie watches excitedly nearby. A train emerges in the distance heading into a tunnel, while a dinosaur flies above along with an airplane.

One of my concerns about this sketch is that the elements on the canvas are quite small - so I created version 2 on the below to give emphasis to the theme elements.

Rough Ideation for the Postcard Invitation 2

This version was created to emphasize Oliver’s favourite things. Oliver is laying down playing with a plane looking up at the sky imagining dinosaurs, a fire truck and a train in the sky. It’s a little bit more abstract. Making the theme elements bigger on the canvas allows for a young toddler to clearly see all the elements right away rather than searching through. It plays on the theme of imagination and prioritizes the elements requested.
